Changes to Online Learning and Summit - coming September 2023

March 31, 2022

As some of you may have heard, the Ministry is making significant changes to Online Learning commencing in September of 2023. In short, schools wishing to enrol students provincially must comply with new technological and regulatory requirements. With considerably larger provincial hubs for Online Learning in neighbouring districts, this is not viable for Mission Public Schools. For further information on this change, please see this link: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/education-training/k-12/support/classroom-alternatives/online-learning/model

After several discussions in the Committee of the Whole and Public Board meetings, the Board has made the difficult decision to draw down and close Summit K-7. However, this will not happen for another year – students can still attend for the 2022/23 school year. After that, students in K-7 will need to enrol in either their local catchment school or a local provincial hub school. Information on these hubs will be available in the coming months. Please note that Summit 8-12 will continue to operate.
If you have questions about Online Learning, Summit Learning Centre, Provincial Hubs, or other related topics, please reach out to me at angus.wilson@mpsd.ca. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
